Equipment

I don't really intend to list every item of equipment that I use to go boating, instead I am going to list the bits of kit that I think have either been exceptional value, performed well or items I simply really like.

First up my new boat...

P&H Quest Lv

I'd been stock piling my pennies for a long time in order to start my seakayak adventures but never did I think I would start with such a wonderful boat  I was really very fortunate to get this one. I was all set to get a new plastic kayak but came across this for sale at nearly the same price as a plastic one. Basically it was a factory second, new apart from some very slight cosmetic blemishes around the skeg box and bows hence the price. Oh and I didn't have a choice on the colour either, it wouldn't be my first choice, but it's starting to grow on me.

Apart from the blemishes (which are very slight) everything else construction wise seems fine. The skeg which is the old wire version seems a bit stiff but I imagine that will loosen with time.

What I will say though, is that the back band had to go, I simply didn't like it. Its been replaced by a block of foam which for now is just right.

Why the quest?  Price really that was the main factor. I basically wanted a boat that I could grow into and would keep with me as I developed, I didn't want to buy a more stable beginner boat because I knew I'd be selling it a few years down the road, for reference I was looking at the RM Nordkapp and Scorpio both fitted the bill.
